Students Participate in Salmon Culture at Local Hatchery

Students in adjunct Professor Angie Bowers’ Salmon Culture Lab (FT 230) discuss hatchery techniques while salmon become anesthetized in clove oil. This intensive course focuses on relevant salmon enhancement techniques and skills. Students become familiar with egg incubation techniques, feeding techniques, rearing, pathobiology and tagging and marking techniques. This year, the course was held at the Sheldon Jackson Hatchery here in Sitka.

Students often reference the lab courses as their favorite part of the Fish Tech program. Nothing like a hands-on experience in the field to get you hooked! Keep your eyes out for FT 111 Fisheries Management Lab in the spring.
