This past month, Fish Tech faculty and staff, as a part of Sitka Fire Department’s Search and Rescue Team, came across a relic of Sitka’s Russian past. The anchor, measuing 8′ by 8′ appears to be from a large ship from the 1840s. However, it’s role in the lake in which it was found is not yet clear. It could have been a part of a larger anchoring scheme used to secure a log damn or float.

“It’s always neat to remember the diverse applications of skills we teach as a part of the Fish Tech curriculum. We can be diving as a biologist one day, and as an archaeologist another day!” -Professor Joel Markis
